| The Practice was founded in 1981 by J. Alan Walker who took over from his father, J.J. Walker, a vet practitioner. In 1983 the branch surgery at Shipston-on-Stour was set up and in 1985 Stephen Glanvill became a partner and opened the surgery at Charlbury. In 1995 Simon Richards joined the partnership. Alan Walker retired from the partnership in 2006, although he still works as a consultant to the practice. In 2008 Gary Jennings became a partner. It is a mixed practice -30% domestic pets, 25% farm work, 45% equine work. Both the Hook Norton and Charlbury surgeries have small animal operating facilities. In July 2002 the main surgery at Hook Norton moved to its' new purpose-built site at White Hills. It hosts both equine and farm animal operating facilities, including stabling for equine in-patients and has its' own laboratory. The practice is a tier 3 Small Animal Hospital under the RCVS accreditation scheme. The practice is a founder member of the new national XL Vets group; consisting of some 30 veterinary practices across the country who are dedicated to helping UK livestock farmers face up to the many challenges within their industry.
