Changes to PETS Passport Travel Scheme January 2012 date dded:09/01/12
• Tapeworm treatment still has to be given before return to the UK
• It now has to be given between 1 and 5 days (24 – 120 hours) before scheduled arrival time in the UK
• There is no requirement for tick treatment now; but note that we have seen several dogs over the last few years that have caught tick and fly transmitted diseases in Europe that we do not normally see in the UK. These diseases are especially common in the warmer climates of Southern Europe. If you would like advice about prevention of these diseases please contact the clinic well before your plan to travel.
• From January 2012 a blood test is no longer needed to check that the Rabies vaccine has worked
• A new passport can be drawn up after the microchip and Rabies vaccine is given
• A dog or cat is free to travel 21 days after the vaccine was given
• If a Rabies booster is missed the booster can be given late and it is then only 21 days before the animal can travel
• It is still the case that most countries in EU require annual Rabies vaccines. They are happy for you and your animals to travel through provided the Rabies vaccine marked in the passport is valid for the duration of your travel.
• If you become resident they require you to register with a local Vet and comply with annual Rabies vaccination and any local suggestions for parasite treatments. Residency is defined as 3 consecutive calendar months

FREE EQUINE VISIT ZONES date dded:31/03/11
Following trials during March, the practice now has a new system of Free Equine Visit Zones. The practice area has been divided into segments, to be serviced on a particular day. Clients registered at the practice need to book in 48 hours in advance to book their visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.
By offering a limited selection of procedures and by organising the Vet's day efficiently we can offer to remove the visit charge.
We appreciate our client needs to be flexible as we will determine the time of the visit from the number of calls booked on a particular day. If registered clients still want to book a specific Vet at a specific time we can cater to their needs.
Please contact Farm & Equine Reception on 01608 730085 (option 1) for an Information pack.
If you wish to register as a new equine client please telephone us on 01608 730085. You will be asked to pay a deposit on registering which will be used as pre-payment against your first invoice.
FREE Senior Pet Health Care Checks date dded:18/02/10
We are pleased to announce that the practice is now offering FREE Senior Pet Health Care Check-Ups for all cats and dogs over the age of 9 years which are otherwise well. (You have to be a registered client to take up this offer).
As pets are unable to explain their symptoms, the check up will give us the opportunity to examine your pet and pick up on any potential health problems early which can result in more effective or successful treatment. So attending one of our FREE health checks not only gives you peace of mind but is also a great way of ensuring your pet keeps enjoying life for as long as possible.
The check-ups will take place at our Hook Norton surgery during a 20 minute appointment usually on a Tuesday or Thursday (other days by prior arrangement). Your pet will be seen first by a qualified Nurse who will go through the questionnaire and test the urine sample(dogs) or take the blood pressure measurement (cats). A blood sample will be taken to get a fuller picture of your pet’s kidney and liver function. The Vet will then perform a full physical examination and discuss any findings along with any questions you may have. The blood test will be run in our on-site laboratory and the Vet will telephone you to discuss the results. If further investigations are necessary following your pet’s examination and blood and urine tests, these will incur an additional fee.
These appointments are designed to be a yearly health check and can be combined with your pet’s annual vaccination.
