Infectious Disease Investigation and Control
We are always keen to assist in preventing and controlling disease on farm for all species.
The practice is a proud member of XLvets which means we run several campaigns including BVDFree/BVD check tag, Grassroots Ewe Nutrition, Make Your Farm A Fortress, Healthy youngstock and Controlling Sheep Lameness. Further information can be found at – www.xlvets-farm.co.uk
Many of our farms already belong to Premium health schemes, such as the SAC, which means we can work alongside national schemes to offer a cost effective programme of testing and management to control major endemic cattle diseases including BVD, Johne’s disease, IBR and Leptospirosis. For more information follow this link www.sruc.ac.uk/info/120112/premium_cattle_health_scheme
BVDFree Scheme – BVDFree England is an industry-led scheme designed to eliminate BVD virus from all cattle herds in the country by 2022. It will develop a national database, storing individual and herd test results for scheme members. BVDFree is based on achieving the elimination of BVD through identification and removal of animals persistently infected (PIs) with BVD. Please visit www.bvdfree.org.uk to register your farm.
Action Johnes – The National Johne’s Management Plan has been developed to help provide strategies to manage the control of Johne’s Disease on your farm. We have a BCVA accredited Johnes advisor within the practice to help advise you on controlling the disease on your farm. Visit www.actionjohnesuk.org for more information.
