We love a (kidney) good news story!
One of our lovely feline patients, Tansy, recently spent some time here with us at HNVG after becoming unwell. The team of Small Animal veterinary surgeons and nurses looked to find out what was making her ill.
Tansy underwent an ultrasound scan of her abdomen and it showed that the kidney was full of fluid and abnormal, a term called hydronephrosis. After checking Tansy’s renal function, the owner consented to remove the affected kidney as it was potentially causing her pain and would be likely to cause issues in the future.
Veterinary Surgeon Will Oldham performed the surgery whilst Tansy was under general anaesthetic, closely monitored by veterinary nurse Katy Allen. The operation went smoothly, and she recovered well. Happily cats can cope with one kidney!
She spent a further week in the hospital being closely monitored and cared for by the nursing team and is now happily back home with her family, enjoying lots of cuddles.Back to news
