We would like to thank Kate for the excellent talk she gave at our client evening on 26 September, introducing our exciting new Beef KPI Project. We’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone who came along for their interest and engagement.
The project aims to gather performance data from as many of our beef farms as possible to create a database of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for our beef clients to benchmark themselves against. This will help us discover the areas where marginal improvements can be made on-farm, leading to better performance and profits.
We highly encourage all of our beef suckler herds to participate (whether you made it to the meeting or not!) – the more farms we have involved, the more useful the data set will be! Unfortunately, the survey is tailored to suckler herds and does not include calf-rearing and finishing units. However, if you are buying young-stock to rear and interested in participating, please let us know anyway – we may be able to develop a specific survey for you!
It is very simple to get involved – simply scan the QR code or follow the link below, to fill in our survey using your performance records. After completing the survey, you’ll receive a report and access to the XLVet practices’ national database, allowing you to compare your performance with other farms right away! These will be really useful when it comes to reviewing your health plans and setting targets for the next 12 months.
If you don’t have accurate records yet, now is the time to start collecting them!
Next autumn, we will reconvene to discuss the results across the practice. By then, hopefully, everyone will have had time to gather 12 months’ worth of data and fill in the survey. Remember, all of your data will be anonymised, so you don’t need to worry about what other people will think. Please be completely honest with your answers and base them on real records, not estimations.
We look forward to discussing your results!

Once you have completed the survey, you will be sent a report and given access to the existing national database from across the XLVet practices. This means you’ll be able to compare your own performance and see how you are doing straight away! These will be really useful when it comes to reviewing your health plans and setting targets for the next 12 months.
