From the 1st of October, we began opening Small Animal registrations for new clients in stages.
First, we will be accepting new clients with puppies and kittens up to the age of 1 year. If you have put your name on our waiting list and have a puppy or kitten, you will be contacted by our Small Animal Reception Team.
Why are we only registering puppies and kittens?
Vaccinating your pets is one of the most important things you can do to help protect them against a number of nasty diseases seen in the UK (parvo, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis). Young animals have a naive immune system which means they are more at risk of being susceptible to these diseases, so we want to protect them as soon as possible.
Neutering cats is important as it helps to reduce unwanted litters of kittens. Cats are effective breeders, and female cats can get pregnant from a very young age, so making sure your kitten is neutered or spayed is particularly important. Neutering also helps reduce fighting and reduces the risk of cancers and other diseases through mating.
It is also vital to guide puppies and kittens through their earlier developmental stages, with help and guidance (where needed) from our veterinary and nursing team, including; exercise, dietary, behavioural, socialisation and preventative healthcare.
When will we open registrations to older cats and dogs?
Further reviews will take place monthly as we continue to review the service we can provide. In the meantime, if you are not currently registered with HNVG and would like to be added to our waiting list, please email reception@hooknortonvets.co.uk.
What happens if I have a puppy/kitten and an older pet I would like to register?
At this time we are unable to open our books fully. If you have a pet that is older than 1 year, they will need to be added to our waiting list. We will then contact you when we open our books further. We will be reviewing new client registrations each month.
Why did we temporarily close Small Animal registrations?
Due to the unprecedented increase in client/animal numbers over the last 18 months, temporarily, we took the difficult decision to suspend new client registrations. We also had to take into account the pandemic and the potential impacts of staff having to isolate. It wasn’t ideal, but it was in the best interests of the animals in our charge and ensured our continued delivery of exceptional care to our current client list, including the provision of OOH by our extraordinary veterinary and nursing team.
Rest assured;
If you are a current client and have a new pet to register (now or in the future), we will provide veterinary care for all of your animals, old and new.
This does not affect the running of our practice in any way, and we continue to work hard both during surgery hours and for out-of-hours emergencies.
This does not affect our Equine or Farm Animal departments.
Thank you for your patience,
HNVG.
