The preferred treatment option for cranial cruciate ligament disease at Hook Norton is tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA). Cranial closing wedge osteotomy and lateral suture can also be offered in appropriate cases where budget and patient selection are appropriate.
Both locking and standard dynamic compression plate technology, as well as external skeletal fixation and interlocking nails, are used to manage even the most complicated long bone fractures. Sensible & realistic estimates of these procedures will be discussed prior to surgery to suit most budgets.
TTA, Orthomed Ridgestop, medial release, and lateral imbrication are all employed to treat this common multifactorial orthopaedic complaint.
For some end-stage cases of osteoarthritis or catastrophic soft tissue damage, the only salvage option for pain-free function is arthrodesis. This works particularly well in the carpus and tarsus. A referral is always offered for these cases as complications can occur.
Sometimes due to extensive damage, budgets, and pain we recommend the amputation of a limb. We off counselling to you as the client about the procedure and will discuss many cases who have done exceedingly well post-surgery.
We are able to repair catastrophic fractures or place a prophylactic screw across the condyles to help these pets have pain-free use of the limb.
