We actively encourage sustainable parasite control on our farms and can produce specific control plans to suit the individual farm system. It is vital that we use wormers strategically and sensibly in the future to reduce the chance of resistance developing on your farm!
We have found evidence of resistance to white, yellow and clear wormers over the last few years, so we need to act now!
The use of Faecal Egg Counts (FEC), rotation of the products used, improved pasture management and better on-farm compliance have helped to combat this problem, and fortunately, two new classes of wormer have been introduced to the market over the last few years. The Orange (Zolvix) and Purple (Startect) wormers are vet-only products, and as there is very little resistance to them, we can use them as targeted treatments to kill problem worms.
We run our FECs in our own laboratory which allows us to have the results the same day to advise a quick and effective treatment – if necessary – with the correct product.
Our aim is to assist you in producing a more productive and profitable enterprise for the future! For more information on the sustainable control of parasites, please visit – www.scops.org.uk
