Our most recent farm newsletter made you aware of the batch failure of the abortion vaccine Cevac® Chlamydia. Our fantastic Pharmacy team has sourced a limited supply of the Hipra vaccine INMEVA®.
Due to stock limitations, we are advising you to vaccinate if you’ve had recent issues in your flock. If you’ve had no issues, we advise you to vaccinate next year.
For use in ewes from 5 months of age onwards. Dose: 2 ml by subcutaneous injection behind the shoulder in the rib area (lateral thoracic region). Basic vaccination: Animals should receive 2 vaccine doses with an interval of 3 weeks. The first dose should be administered at least 5 weeks before artificial insemination or mating; administer the second dose 3 weeks after the first dose.
We cannot stress enough that early detection is essential; bringing abortion samples (the lamb and placenta) to the surgery (to save you a visit fee) will allow us to implement other treatment options specific to your flock. For best results, this is best carried out asap after the abortion – leaving more than a day will hinder results as the foetus will start to disintegrate.
No treatment is available for toxoplasma; vaccination is key! The batch failure has NOT affected this vaccine, so please contact us to order Toxovax® for your flock.
