My career in a veterinary practice began as a receptionist at a small animal hospital. After being a stay-at-home mum until the children began secondary school I knew I would need to be working with people and animals in order to be fulfilled. I enjoyed the relationship with clients and patients and eventually decided I would like to pursue a career in veterinary nursing. This was no easy feat at the age of 50, but with the patience, guidance and the vast knowledge I have gained from all my colleagues at HNVG I have done it!
I still enjoy my relationship with both patients and their owners through nurse clinics; it’s always a joy to see happy patients and clients in for post-operative checks and to help guide them in their recovery. No day is ever the same being a vet nurse and I enjoy all aspects and the continued learning.
In my free time I love to garden, read novels and enjoy time with my children and fur babies – two cats, John and Gladys and our recent addition, Barbara, a miniature wire-haired dachshund. My children share the same passion and love for animals as I do, and I hope my journey has been an example to them that it’s never too late to learn something new and pursue your dreams.
