Sophie began nursing over 25 years ago. She initially trained at HNVG completing her student nurse training at Moreton Morrell and qualifying in 2003. Sophie spent 13 years at HNVG and worked her way up to an assistant head nurse. Sophie’s loved training our student nurses and completed the A1 award in coaching and mentoring. In 2013 it was time for a change and she decided to take a leap into locuming.
In 2018, Sophie returned to us as Head Nurse. She is responsible for the day to day running of the nursing team which consists of 18 RVN’s, 3 SVN’s, 5 ANA’s, 1 VCA and 2 lab techs. Her passion is medical nursing and has recently been successful in completing the Certificate in Advanced Nursing in Emergency and Critical Care. She loves how involved nurses can be with medical cases and ultimately seeing those patients improve. Her main goal at the hospital is driving clinical excellence and her ethos is to “treat every animal as if it was your own”.
This years Veterinary nursing awareness month is focusing on progression. Along with the support of management, Sophie has developed career pathways for our nursing team. So you can start with us at hook norton vets as a veterinary nursing assistant and work your way through the pathway up to senior nurse.
Family life is also very important to her and she enjoys spending time with her 2 boys, 2 ridgebacks, 2 cats and the lovely rescue pug “Peggy sue”!
