My role within the practice is to work alongside our Vets or on my own to help optimise farm animal health and production and to help clients optimise their time efficiently by offering an extra pair of hands on-farm. This time is charged at a reduced hourly rate of £42+VAT.
Knockdown disbudding is currently one of the most popular services we offer. It ensures that calf stress levels are kept to a minimum which helps to promote high growth rates and calf health. While calves are under sedation, it is also the perfect time to administer vaccines, and a Vet can also complete any necessary castrations. A vaccination plan can also be written up by one of the Vets for your cows or calves; I can then administer the vaccines, ensuring correct storage and administration. Other general calf jobs include tagging, ringing and weighing to monitor growth rates.
We also offer a herd vaccination service for cattle, which, for our dairy herds, is usually best completed during milking time. Alongside this, worm and fly control can also be carried out. I can also provide ROMS mobility scoring, which will help you quickly identify and monitor any lameness issues within your herd.
TB is a major problem within cattle herds, so a TBAS badger sett survey is also a vet tech service offered. It will help you pinpoint problem areas on your farm, and advice can be given to help you control and overcome them.
Other services include body condition & hock scoring, bolusing, and synchronised AI.
Synchronised AI is the perfect way to introduce new genetics into your herd without the added pressure of buying or renting a new stock bull. It also helps to reduce the risk of diseases being bought in, such as TB, BVD, IBR, and Johnes. It helps to tighten calving periods and improve overall suckler herd management.
The sync and AI schedule takes 10 days, with a farm vet visiting, scanning, inserting PRIDs, and injecting GnRH into the cows to start the synchronised ovulation programme on day 0. This will always be done on a Monday morning. On day 6 (Sunday PM), you, the farmer, will remove the PRIDs and inject 2ml of PGF2a, which the Vet will leave with you on day 0. On day 9 (Wednesday AM), I will visit your farm and inseminate and inject GnRH into all animals on the sync programme.
Prices for sync and service (AI)
1-4 cows: £45 per animal
5+ cows: £35 per animal
These prices include all the hormones used, the Vet’s time and the insemination of all animals. *A discounted visit charge will also be applied for both visits.*
Flock vaccination, worm control, and fly control are also services available to sheep flocks to help ensure correct administration. Other general management services include weighing, foot-bathing, foot trimming and pulling sponges.
Routine vaccinations, worming and fly control for alpacas, goats and sheep can all be administered by a Vet Tech if you are not confident in doing so yourself or just need an extra pair of hands.
Routine foot trimming can also be carried out to ensure high animal health and welfare. Other services include tagging, ringing, and FEC (faecal egg count) collection. FEC samples will then be run in our in-house lab and reported by a Vet.
Please contact our Reception Team if you would like help with any of the above mentioned services on your farm!
